 Court repair

At the next city council meeting on Tuesday, February 21st, the council will discuss and vote on the acceptance of the Metrolina Landscaping bid to level the croquet court. The meeting starts at 7:00PM and members are strongly encouraged to attend.

If the council votes in favor of accepting the bid, the repairs will be started in the April/May timeframe.

Membership report

Membership currently stands at 98.

TCCC Board changes

Tom Anderson’s passing left us with the need to elect a new president and a new board member. George Noeth has been elected President and Howard Miller Vice President. Jerry Noftsger was identified as a good potential new board member and we are delighted to announce that he has agreed to join us.

Tom Anderson memorial project

The obituary for Tom that appeared in local newspapers included TCCC among

a number of organizations to which friends of Tom might wish to make donations in memory of him.

The club has so for received donations totaling $1,380 that we intend to use to create a memorial to Tom adjacent to the court. Ideas at the moment range from a relatively modest seating area with an inset stone plaque to a decent sized gazebo that would provide a covered seating and viewing area. The final form of the memorial will depend on the amount of money available and what the city will permit. Work on the memorial will be coordinated with the court repairs. If any members have particular views regarding the memorial project, please let them be known to a board member.

Resolution of 2011 Anderson Trophy

Following the passing of Tom Anderson, and Bob & Peggy Towner’s decline of a forfeiture win, the board has declared the tournament to be a draw. The trophy will be inscribed accordingly and reserved parking spaces will be allocated one jointly to the Towners and one jointly to Ron Jordan and Betty in lieu of Tom.

Organized play days

The next scheduled play-days are Wednesday, February 15th and Tuesday, Tuesday, March 6th.  Please reserve your preferred play time by calling Bob Runde at his office 548-4452 or e-mailing him at wanderer@comporium.net

Valentine Croquet Triathlon

This event is scheduled for 1:00PM to 4:00PM on February 14th.

We will play three different games aimed at testing our skills at shooting wickets and getting through six wickets with the least number of shots.

Groups of three will play every 30 minutes. To reserve a play period please contact John Webb at john_webb2@comporium.net or 802-5002.

Because the winter weather is so iffy and it’s risky to plan a committed fee paying event, we have decided you will be on your own for lunch or drinks. We have heard there will be a lunch bunch at the club house, so if you are so inclined, come on up!

TCCC Annual General Meeting and Pot Luck lunch

This year’s annual general meeting will be held in the lower level of the Glennon Center at 1:00PM on Saturday, March 3rd.

The agenda will include the Tom Anderson memorial project, financial statement, court repairs (physical and financial aspects), events committee report, greens fees and court rental rates, membership rates, web site, and play day discussion with member’s suggestions.

You are encouraged to contact George Noeth or George Fiegel if you would like to see other items added to the agenda.

The meeting will be preceded by a pot luck lunch at noon. Please bring your favorite dish to share, ready to serve by noon.

We will be scheduling play times like a regular play day except that we will draw for partners from the groups playing in each time slot. Please schedule your preferred play time by contacting Bob Runde at  wanderer@comporium.net or 548-4452. Play will start at 11:00AM., and resume after the meeting at 2:00PM.

President’s Corner

I am honored, humbled, nervous and a few other emotions about being elected to fill the unexpired term of our buddy Tom Anderson, as president of the croquet club.  We all know that Tom was irreplaceable.  Before retiring he was a recruiter, if anyone was ever in the perfect job for his personality it was Tom. Tom recruited every one of us into this club and it was one of his proudest accomplishments.

Now Tom is gone and we have one of the largest croquet clubs in the country here in Tega Cay.  We hope that very soon we will have a croquet lawn as good as anything in the country.  I promise to do my best, along with the same board that helped Tom guide us to this point.  Our newest addition to the board, Jerry Noftsger also brings a lot to the table.  With your help we will continue to grow and turn heads in the croquet world.

Thanks in advance for your help, I’ll need it.

George Noeth
