  MEMBER QUESTIONS

Are we required to check in at the golf desk when we have signed up using the automated system?  If we are not required to check in, can we bring anyone we want onto the court?  We are not required to check in.  Members are on the honor system and would pay guest fees at the pavilion.  Those who are not a member or the guest of a member are the only ones who pay the $15 and they would probably go to the pro shop.

update 5-8-11:  check in is not required, greens fees are collected in the Pro shop.  Members are on the honor system to see that their guest greens fees are paid.

Grandchildren are ordinarily free.  Does an older grandchild get into the court free?  A grand child older than 21 should be required to play for a $5 guest fee. (Same as any out of town guest)

Who gets the $15…the golf club or us?  All greens fees are collected by the club but are turned over to us.

Will these questions/comments be permanently posted someplace on the croquet web page for others to see?  If not, how will they be tracked until they are answered or resolved? Yes, here

Has consideration been given to charging out-of-town house guests of club members less than a local non-member to play?  Yes, out-of-town (further than 50 miles) house guest of members will be charged $5 each.

When will the members start seeing the amount of food service revenue generated by croquet activity each month?  Members will be apprised of monthly income derived from food and beverage income after which time a new service is in place at the golf club.

Update, 5-8-11;  The new management for all food services at present has no way to track revenue from the croquet club.  That portion of our agreement will have to be re-negotiated with the city.

How many members have
used the court during the month or period? A system to track the numbers of members and non-members using the croquet facility will be in place when the new on-line reservation system is fully operational.

How many non-members have used the court?   Four non-members used the court in the last quarter of 2010.

What are the upcoming events?
All future organized activity will be published on this website.

What are the results of completed events?  The only data collected on previous events is number of wickets obtained by a player in a match.  The highlights of these matches is reported in the newsletter.  This information is not saved long term because the information is not representative of an individual’s performance.  Due to the nature of the game (team play, defensive shots, etc.), the number of wickets is not a valid measure of performance.

Update 5-8-11 event results are posted on this website, normal play dates are not tracked and no records are kept

What is the current status of the effort to resolve the condition of the croquet court, and what is the target for having a plan in place for fixing the court?    We met on Friday January 28 with the mayor and the city manager on this matter.  We have our next board meeting scheduled for the first Monday in February.  At that time we plan to update the membership probably via the newsletter.  Our only target is ASAP.   I don’t like  a lot of secrecy I would like to be completely open and tell it like it is.  But I’m sure you understand that when you are planning a strategy that may involve legal action you have to be careful about when you go public.

I assume that any plan will show the projected time the court will be closed.   You can assume that when we know something it will be relayed to all our members.

What is the status of the $2200 per year commitment, since the city and developer agreed that the court was not properly completed?

We do not know the answer to that one at this point  We have put up $2200 escrow back when the court was opened,  we will not put up any additional monies until we get some answers from the city.  but we will not be pushing that one till the new management at the restaurant is in place and things settle down a bit.

Now that the city has leased out the food service to a third party (not Pinnacle Golf Properties), is the requirement for a $2200 per year commitment still valid?   This is the same as question above. Same answer.

With the outstanding contractual commitment that the Croquet Club has to pay off the loan used to build the court, why does the Croquet Club Board continue to make the court available to other groups at no cost?

You have got me on that one. I am not aware of any time the court was used by any outside group cost or no cost.  We have an ice cream social event coming up with the Vintage club, if that is what you refer to, There will be more members than non members attending that event and yes we hope to pick up some new members from it.  This is not done at no cost, a portion of the amount paid by each participant will go to the club.

What I have an objection to is the lack of a defined policy and the inconsistent rates charged to different groups for the use of the court. (I.e. the Senior Games for free, the Vintage Club Ice Cream Social for a dollar each).  Given this, what is the Croquet Club going to charge the Senior Games this spring?  What are you going to charge the Tega Cay Woman’s Club, if they decide to have a croquet outing?   Examples are the Anderson trophy, the event in July when the Egyptian gave a demo, the grand opening etc. in all of these events we charged enough to cover our expenses but it is never exact, what is left over goes to the club.

I view this issue as similar to when the Vintage Club has a golf outing.  Everyone pays a set fee to cover the cost of prizes and then pay separately to cover the golf.  Tega Cay Golf Club members have to pay the club for their cart rental.  Non-members, like me, must pay the going green fee plus the cart fee.  I don’t see how or why the use of the croquet court should be treated any differently.  The board will be informed of your objections.
